Rocksteady very subtly makes you take on Batman’s real superpower: his mind. It’s easy to forget after Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy and the blockbuster spectacle of Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice that Batman’s moniker is “the world’s greatest detective.” By trapping you within the asylum, stripped of your ability to call in any gadgets and with no time to call for help, you are forced to take things slow and think before just jumping into the fray. “The most important weapon in your arsenal will be your ability to adapt.” Yet in expanding the playground, one of the key elements of Batman’s character was lost. However, like most sequels, the games that came after Arkham Asylum were to be bigger, shinier, and with a lot more to do. Rocksteady had struck gold with Arkham Asylum, and it was clear from critic’s admiration for the game and its financial success that a franchise was to be built on the solid foundations they had created. But, although it never reached the critical praise or commercial success Arkham Asylum would, it would be wrong not to point out that it did introduce several elements that Rocksteady Studios would later refine further. The Batman Begins game suffers from not only the same flaws as its source material but also from the fact that it felt more akin to a Splinter Cell clone rather than something wholly unique. But for me there was always something missing from those games, which were often simple brawlers.īefore I discuss Arkham Asylum, let me back up slightly, because the first real evolution of Batman’s gameplay came not with the 2009 release but in the 2005 mediocre retelling of Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins. And, of course, I played the numerous video games. I read the comics, watched the films, and even went back to the classic 1960s TV show. Take a look at the video for yourselves. My first exposure to the caped crusader was through Batman: The Animated Series as a young lad in the early 1990s, and ever since then I’ve been eagerly devouring as much media surrounding the dark knight as I’ve been able to get my hands on. Music from the trailer comes from Tim Burton’s classics A Nightmare Before Christmas and Batman Returns. It’s like if Guillermo del Toro or Zack Snyder directed this. It holds true to the characters, tone, and emotions. This fan made trailer is by far one the best fan made videos, in my opinion, on any novel. Heath Ledger also read the novel in preparing for his role as the Joker in The Dark Knight. Part of the graphic novel was used in the hit video game Batman: Arkham Asylum. The novel is one of the best Batman graphic novels of all time. The graphic novel also shows the history and background of the infamous Asylum. The Joker has one final demand for Batman to join him and the rest of the inmates in Arkham. Throughout the enter day, Joker has been making demands with the police and promises not to kill the hostages if his demands are meant. The story takes place on April 1st, also known as April Fool’s Day, and the Asylum is taking over by the Joker and other inmates. In 2007, Miguel Mesas directed a fan made adaption of Grant Morrison's masterpiece Arkham Asylum: A Serious House On Serious Earth. Before I begin I would like to say that while this video is 5 years old, nothing about this video has been posted about on this site yet.
